Laura and I have been on the hunt for a new trailer. If you've looked through the pictures, you'll see that we were restoring an old fiber glass "bubble" trailer. Shortly after our first trip in it, I realised that there was still a lot of work and money that was going to be needed to make the trailer something that was comforting to use. I wasn't up for the challenge and we decided to start hunting around for a pop-up trailer. We figured a pop-up would be a good choice because we could easily tow it with her Focus and it would allow us to build come kind of rack on the back to tow a canoe or bikes. It also would give us a little more room for the future children.
After hunting around on Craigslist, I determined that we could find a decent one somewhere between $500 - $1500 depending on what "extras" we wanted. The main goal, however, was finding one with canvas that was in good condition. After searching for several weeks, I stumbled upon someone selling a 1974 Bethany Compact 560 pop-up trailer. He was asking $450. I know what your thinking, 34 years old and $450, it must be a complete piece of trash. Well, I requested some pictures and to my amazement, the canvas looked almost brand new. I set up a meeting, and this morning Laura, my Dad, and I met him and looked the trailer over. It's in fantastic condition. The little thing actually has a heater, sink, and 2-burner propane stove. It's going to need some small cosmetic work, but it is quite usable and it sleeps six.
Oh, and I forgot to mention that Dad bought the bubble, so that will be remaining in the family. Is it spring yet? I want to go camping!
